Clients often tell us “it’s not about the money as much as it is about making sure this doesn’t happen to someone else.”
Unlike the criminal system, the civil justice system is intentionally designed to provide for the recovery of money damages. An important added benefit to pursuing money damages is to motivate wrongdoers to change their behavior. The idea is to get adequately compensated for your injuries while giving the wrongdoer a good reason to act differently next time.
We firmly believe that just as the criminal system is intended to address effects of crime on society, the civil system is intended to address the effects of crime on the victim.
In addition to aggressively pursuing any criminal perpetrator who has sufficient financial assets, we aggressively file lawsuits against negligent third parties whose actions create conditions that allow criminals to victimize our clients. These third parties may include landlords, apartment complex owners, hotel/motel operators or employers of perpetrators.
In many cases we pursue civil litigation even if the criminal prosecution is unsuccessful or there is no prosecution at all. We also work closely with prosecutors’ offices during our clients’ involvement with the criminal system and we routinely provide referrals to additional victim assistance resources
Fees
There is no charge for an initial consultation and most of our clients are represented on a contingent fee basis, meaning no attorney fee is due unless and until we obtain a recovery on behalf of the client. If you have some questions many of these can be answered over the phone, however more complex questions often require forms to be signed as the Law requires. Give us a call today to speak with either Mr. Deitch or Mr. Rogers. We can be reached at (770) 394-9000.
